INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY UNIT

UNIT OVERVIEW

Led by a Director

The ICT Unit is among the 8 Units within the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism. The objective of the ICT Unit is to ensure that the Ministry becomes digital in delivering quality services to all its stakeholders in a timely manner. In addition to the stated responsibilities, the ICT Unit is guided by various policies, guidelines, and directives on the use of ICT in Government, which are emphasized through:

  • National ICT policy 2016
  • E-government act of 2019
  • Cyber security act of 2015
  • e-government guideline

STRUCTURE

The Functions of the ICT Unit are provided in  the Ministry’s  Organazation structure of January 29, 2022. which outlines the responsibilities to be carried out by the Unit. The Unit is headed by the Head of Unit. In addition, the Unit has established an informal internal structure to support the execution of ICT functions, consisting of two main sections as follows:

  • Systems Development
  • User Support and ICT Infrastructure Services

FUNCTIONS

The responsibilities of the Unit are derived from one of the objectives in the Ministry’s Strategic Plan, and organization structure.

  1. Design and develop Information systems for enhancing service delivery, data collection, processing, analysis, storage, and retrieval
  2. Implement ICT and e-Government policy
  3. Carryout studies and propose areas of using ICT as an instrument to improve service delivery to the whole Ministry
  4. Ensure that hardware and software are well maintained
  5. Providing technical advice on services to the Ministry and Institutions on ICT matters
