Led by a Director
The Paramilitary Coordination Unit has been established with the objective of strengthening the management, coordination, and execution of all paramilitary activities within the Wildlife, Forestry, and Beekeeping sectors. The Unit ensures that Conservation Services are conducted professionally, with discipline, efficiency, and in accordance with the national security policies and laws.
Legal Basis
The Unit is legally established under the Wildlife Conservation Act, Cap. 283, through the Wildlife and Forest Conservation Service Regulations, 2021 – GN No. 589, made under Section 12(4) of the Act. According to Regulation 3(3)– (5), the coordination of the activities of the Wildlife and Forest Conservation Service shall be vested in the Paramilitary Coordination Unit, to be established at the Ministry and headed by a Director with a rank not below that of Assistant Conservation Commissioner (ACC). The Unit shall comprise representatives from each institution forming the Conservation Force, namely the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA), Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA), and Tanzania Forest Service Agency (TFS).
Objective of the Unit
To provide professional advice on military-related matters concerning the Wildlife and Forest Conservation Forces and to ensure that all paramilitary systems are managed effectively, with integrity, diligence, and efficiency.
